HUGUENOT ANCESTRY

References to there being a French connection in the family were made from time to time by my Mother, Dorothy Hartley and my Grandmother, Flora Holmes and I have traced this connection back to the name Bardeaux in Christchurch, Spitalfields and the French Church in Threadneedle Street in London. As far as I can ascertain from the IGI and the Quarto Series produced by the Huguenot Society of Great Britain and Ireland my Huguenot ancestors were Claude Bardeaux who married Marie Agnes Douchet in Winchelsea Sussex. in 1761. Claude and Marie were noted as 'sojourners' on their marriage entry in the Parish Register. Two more entries record the baptisms of two of their children, Judith and Abraham. Claude and Marie subsequently appear in Spitalfields, London with the birth of Israel in 1766. Claude appears to have come from Picardie in France and Marie Agnes from Amiens.
